Biography
Aarti was born in Mumbai into the Sindhi-speaking Chabria family – her father, Ashok, is a Dentist; mother Sunita – a curtain designer; she also has a younger brother, Abhishek, who is also expected to work in the dental profession.
She is the first in her family to be associated with Bollywood.
Aarti has been modeling since she was 3 years of age. She was the Farex baby, and did almost 200-250 ads for many companies such as Maggi noodles, Pepsodent tooth paste, Clean and Clear Face wash, Amul Frostick Ice-cream, LML trendy scooter, Krach cream etc.
She was a good student in both school and college, once she had finished her formal education, Aarti came into the public spotlight when she was crowned Miss India in 1999. Soon after she appeared in a several music videos for Sukhwinder Singh Nashi Hi Nasha, Madhubala, another for Adnan Sami ‘Roothe hue hai kyo’ from the album Tera Chehera.
Aarti Chhabria is set apart by the fact that she is the only Miss India Worldwide who has worked in mainstream Bollywood (Hindi) movies in addition to appearing in more regional (Kannada and Telugu movies).
She speaks fluent Sindhi, English and Hindi. Her first cameo roles were in ‘Akansha’ and ‘Lajja’ in 1989 and 2001, but her Bollywood debut was came in 2002 in ‘Tum Se Aacha Kaun Hai’.
She has show versatility by appearing in comedies, playing an NRI tapori in ‘Awara Paagal Deewana’, the role of a woman with a split personality in ‘Raja Bhaiya’, she’s also played a conservative Muslim belle who is a bar dancer, in love with an underworld don in ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, and a Christian housewife in ‘Daddy Cool’.
She has said that acting was her childhood dream and enjoys working in Bollywood but also enjoys the variety and challenges offered when working on films with more regional appeal.
Aarti was winner in the 4th Season of the Reality TV Show ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ hosted by Akshay Kumar, which aired July 2011.
